What White is Right?

When it comes to white, I am a definite fan!

White Houses, externally; White Walls & ceilings, Internally; White Blinds, White furnishings, White homewares, White kitchen accessories, White bathrooms, White benchtops, and definitely White kitchens; right down to White cars, and White clothing.

White is the BEST colour!  Some people debate that it’s not a colour.

I beg to disagree.

Give me ONE colour, other than black, that is ALWAYS on trend, and ALWAYS looks fresh and crisp and modern.

Yes,  it is certainly the winner over and over again.  Hands down.

So, when I am doing a colour selection with my clients I obviously listen to their wants and needs and look at their lifestyle, but if they ask my advice on what colour kitchen to have (for example), I will always say white (depending somewhat on their style)

So, the question – What White is Right?

There are two types of whites: warm whites and cool whites.

Warm and cool whites have different undertones and can help set a mood within a room.

I couldn't agree more. :)

But how do you decide whether you need a warm white or a cool white?

. 

You need to think about how you want to feel in the space first and foremost.

Then consider your surrounds and the amount of natural light that enters your space.

Cool whites have a blue/black base, and translate as sharp, fresh, crisp and contemporary on the walls.

They also neutralise natural sunlight so work well in north facing rooms where sunlight is at its peak; whereas warmer whites have a yellow/brown base and throw off warmer

hues making a room feel cozier.

The best way to double check that the white that you are looking to use is the right White, is to get yourself a tin or two of sample paints and try patches on the walls.

Check those patches in different lights at different times of the day, and see which one is your favourite.

The other option is to go with the one that your #ColourConsultant from #IntegrityNewHomes recommends, because as a professional, they have been working with the colours

for a long time and can actually tell you how it’s going to look.

In the photo attached, we used Dulux White on White for the walls and  ceilings using Dulux Wash&Wear Low Sheen  paint.

For the doors, skirtings and architraves we used the same colour in a Satin Finish.
