Here are some things that you may need to think about before you embark on a New Build.
Do we have any specific needs or features?
This would include practical features such as wheel chair access or wanting a kids rumpus room or parents retreat.
What is our budget?
On paper any plan can seem affordable, however you need to consider that in the build process, things may arise that are not always planned for – things like that cost of materials going up or the need to do extra earthworks on your land.
Do we have land to build a custom home or are we going for a house and land package?
This can determine the type of house that you build. The house needs to be suited to the block of land, if it is a sloping block, long narrow block etc. Other things to consider are connections such as water and sewer and the cost depending on where the land is situated. Do we have a Builder?
Make sure you do your homework and talk to a few local builders and choose the one you feel is the most upfront and professional, it also helps if you are both on the same page with ideas and communication as you will be spending a lot of time together. J
